How to Apply

We welcome all applicants with Bachelor's degrees, even if they are not in geology or earth science. If you are missing some of the basic geology courses you can still be admitted to the program, and you will make up these courses here at CSULB. Of course if you have a degree in geology, you will be best prepared to enter without delay into a program of graduate-level courses and thesis research. But we have had many students with Bachelor's degrees in other fields who have been very successful in our program.

To apply to the program, you'll need to complete an online application to the University, as well as a short, paper application to the Department. You can get the Department Application Packet by calling the office at (562) 985-4809, or by contacting the graduate advisor. With your application to the Department you will need to arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to us under separate cover, transcripts of all of your college work, and the official report of your score on the General test of the GRE.
